Flights

This section should contain all of the information for the flights for this trip.

We’ve booked flights via British Airways Group Bookings. This provided a number of benefits including a small overall discount, plus the ability to book with only a small deposit per person with the balance being due eight weeks before the departure date.

British Airways Group Bookings have also been able to help with a number of variations that we needed to satisfy everyone. For clarity, a group booking requires a group of 10 or more to travel on the same flights/itinerary, but British Airways allows a small number of “deviations”. Deviations are changes for travellers that are different to the main group. Deviations are limited in number based on a percentage of the overall group size.

We have a “main group” who travel from Manchester to Portland (via Heathrow) on Monday 9th September, and return from Seattle to Manchester (via Heathrow) on Monday 16th September.

We have “deviations” confirmed for 4 people in order for them to fly back from Seattle a week later.

We also have one party based in the south, so will join us on the Heathrow to Portland and Seattle to Heathrow flights only.

There is a second party who has booked his own flights, so is not included in the group bookings, but will join us on the exact same flights.

Finally, one person has pulled out of our flight booking in order to travel to the US a week earlier, so has booked their own flights, but has booked the same return flight as the main group.

Travel To/From UK Airports

Travel to/from UK airports is not included in this trip package! Please make your own travel/parking arrangements where necessary!

It is strongly advised that people arrive at least 2 hours before your departing flight time for international flight. 2.5 to 3 hours is preferred, especially when travelling with sports equipment such as golf clubs as they often need to be dropped at oversize baggage drops.

Baggage allowance

All travellers have a standard British Airways economy “checked bag” baggage allowance of “1 x 23kg bag“.

All travellers are also allowed one piece of hand luggage such as a small backpack, laptop case or handbag.

We have requested up to 18 golf bags. According to British Airways baggage rules, golf bags “may include items such as a set of golf clubs, a golf umbrella, a dozen balls, golf tees and a pair of golf shoes“.

It’s highly recommended that you use a protective hard or soft travel bag for your clubs. Also, it’s recommended to remove any removable club heads if possible. Another good tip is to reverse your clubs so the heads are at the bottom of your bag, and also to wrap spare clothes or towels around the clubs to stop them moving too much. Also it’s advisable to use a ‘stiff arm’ device to protect your clubs in transit such as this: Stiff Arm

Also, whilst it’s not declared on the British Airways site, Group Booking have strongly suggested that golf bags do not exceed the standard 23kg weight limit.

For those connecting through Heathrow, all checked bags will be checked at your departure airports (ie, Manchester and Seattle) directly through to your arrival airports (ie, Portland and Manchester). There will be no need to ‘recheck’ your bags at Heathrow.
